ABOUT THE ROLE

Job Summary:

The Punjab Government’s Schools of Applied Learning (SoAL) initiative aims to revolutionise vocational education for senior secondary students. The initiative aims to transform skill-based education by preparing students for employment through vocational training. The program emphasises practical learning, industry partnerships, and skill development to meet the state’s demand for skilled manpower. To ensure the success of this program, we are seeking a highly qualified Curriculum Development Specialist to join our team on a contract basis.

SoAL offers four trades—Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Digital Design and Development, Beauty & Wellness, and Healthcare Sciences—alongside foundational subjects (languages, technology, and career courses). Each trade includes three specialised trade specific subjects

The curriculum is developed in collaboration with Knowledge Partners, including premier institutes and industry experts. In this role, your focus will be on the Beauty and Wellness trade, specifically designing learning materials for Hairstyling and Salon Management. 

Beauty and Wellness Course – This course covers two core subjects:

  1. Hairstyling: Practical skills in hair cutting, colouring, styling, treatment techniques, hair and scalp health, safety protocols, and client communication.
  2. Salon Management: Business management, customer relations, salon operations, marketing strategies, and entrepreneurship.

Upon completion, students will have the skills to pursue careers in the beauty and wellness industry.

Key Responsibilities

As a Curriculum Development Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Curriculum Content Development and Refinement: Restructure, upgrade and refine the current in-progress content to deliver beauty and wellness handbooks while ensuring it is student and teacher-centred, contextualised, pedagogically appropriate, interactive, engaging and aligned with industry standards. This would be done in collaboration with the respective knowledge partner. 
  • Content Review and Updates: Review current content and suggest/incorporate changes to enhance the quality of the existing material. Incorporate ongoing updates, revisions, or modifications to ensure relevance and alignment with market and industry trends.
  • Assessment Integration: Develop frameworks and sample papers for formative and summative assessments for Beauty and Wellness. Design a comprehensive assessment methodology for continuous and year-end evaluations in collaboration with the knowledge partner.
  • Content Delivery and Program Coordination:
    • Collaborating with stakeholders, including the PMU and knowledge partner, to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.
    • Ensure timely delivery of both initial content and subsequent revisions based on feedback from Punjab School Education Board. 

Job Outcomes

Over the duration of the contract, the following outcomes are to be achieved: 

  • Student material (total 13 units for both subjects for Grade 11): 
    • Hairstyling: 8 units for grade 11, each ranging between 20-50 pages for subject 1
    • Salon Management: 5 units for grade 11, each ranging between 20-50 pages for subject 2
      (Scope to explore grade 12 curriculum depending on suitability of timelines)
  • Teacher handbooks for each unit – total of 13 for both subjects 
    • Review and upgradation of 4 teacher handbooks 
    • Creation of 9 teacher units for grade 11 
  • Assessment sample papers (as detailed above) in accordance with the board-aligned assessment framework for the beauty and wellness trade. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in instructional design, with a focus on vocational education (preferred, not mandatory).
  • Strong understanding of educational psychology and learning theories, in context of learning materials.
  • Experience working with students and teachers in a classroom setting (preferred, not mandatory).
  • Basic program management skills, including project planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Proficiency in Punjabi is preferred.
  • Ability to work out of Mohali/Chandigarh on a need basis (Approximately 2-3 days fortnightly).

Duration of the contract: October 2024 to March 2025, with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement.

Work Arrangement: Flexible work arrangement, allowing for remote work. However, occasional travel will be required for in-person meetings with knowledge partner, teacher consultations etc. 

Location: Remote. Preference to anyone based out of Chandigarh
